2002 SALT LAKE CITY OLYMPICS

From February 1 to February 26, 2002 I had the honour of attending the XIX Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah as a member of the Canadian team.

As I arrived a week before the Games actually started, I had loads of time to get the feel of the Olympic Village (where I got to stay until the Men's hockey team arrived on the 8th) and to check out some of the venues.

The Olympic Flag flying over the village - seeing this was one of my "Olympic moments"!

Outside the Italian accomodation.

In the International Zone of the Olympic Village. This was taken just before the Canadian team flag raising ceremony.

The International Zone. Each of these little houses was a different kind of service - photo shop, Souveneir store, salon, etc. The International Zone was where family could come and visit and where people could just 'mingle'.

Inside the Douglas Dining Centre in the village itself. I thought it was just hilarious that here are the best athletes in the world, and what are they given to eat? McDonalds! There's something so wrong with that!

The outside of Canada's home at the village

Utah is known for it's skiing and I was desperate to check it out....luckily I found out that as media, we could get free tickets to ski at Deer Valley, which is the swankiest resort in the area! So, after finding someone that could pull themselves away from their work for a day (Cheers Andre!), I was off for a day of fun! Deer Valley is where the Olympic Slalom, Freestyle Aerials and mogul competitions took place.

Hey everyone back home!

Andre and I working hard!

Enjoying that 3.2% Utah beer!

Have to love getting security checked in the middle of the ski hill! I went to check out the venues on the front side of the mountain, and to get there, I had to go through a bag check and mag check before getting on the chair lift, then again to access the run that would take me to the base!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN.....
